Every bride dreams of a flawless wedding day. While some aspects, like the dress, venue, and catering, are within your control, there’s always a chance that not everything will go as planned.

One bride thought she had the perfect plan to ensure her wedding went smoothly. However, she quickly realized not everyone shared her perspective. Read on to find out more.
Taking to Reddit’s popular ‘AITAH’ subreddit (short for Am I The Asshole), a bride-to-be sought advice on a question weighing on her mind: am I being unreasonable?

In her post, the bride-to-be explained that she and her fiancé had drafted a list of rules for wedding guests. Shortly after sending out the list, they began receiving cancellations.

Before delving into the details, she clarified that her fiancé had actively participated in creating the rules and was fully supportive of them, dispelling any assumptions of being a ‘bridezilla’ imposing her will against his wishes.

Following their initial post, the couple detailed each rule they had established.
Firstly, they aimed for an ‘unplugged ceremony,’ meaning guests were asked not to have phones during both the ceremony and subsequent dinner, unless in the case of a ‘huge’ emergency. While attendees grasped the no-phones policy during the ceremony, some found the additional restriction during dinner excessive.

Particularly, guests leaving their children at home argued they needed phones to check on them. However, the bride-to-be explained that making exceptions would set a precedent, leading to broader allowances. She asserted, “Checking with your kids is not an emergency. If something serious happens you’ll know.”

Additionally, the couple enforced a strict color scheme and dress code. Guests were instructed to wear only black attire, with women required to wear dresses and men mandated to wear tuxedos. No exceptions were allowed.

Even the bride’s aunt, who had recently transitioned to a more colorful wardrobe after grieving the loss of her husband, was not exempt from the rule, despite expressing that black clothing now made her feel depressed. Similarly, the bride-to-be’s future sister-in-law, who struggled with body dysmorphia and preferred wearing pants for comfort, was not granted an exception.

Months before the wedding, the bridesmaid dresses were ordered, and the bridesmaids were instructed to maintain their weight, whether by eating less or eating more to meet the specified requirements.

The bride explained that her mother was furious about these rules, insisting that the wedding was doomed from the start. Additionally, her bridesmaids threatened to withdraw from the wedding, and there were last-minute cancellations from other guests.

The maid of honor’s daughter was initially slated to be the flower girl, but plans changed. The bride proposed leaving the flower girl with a babysitter at a hotel during the ceremony, but the maid of honor disagreed, intending to leave her daughter with her mother due to the four-hour distance to the wedding venue.

Despite the bride’s preface and explanation, many still perceived the couple as unreasonable and deemed them the ‘assholes.’

Numerous commenters pointed out that while weddings are customizable to the couple’s desires, guests are not obligated to adhere to their rules and have the right to decline participation.

Overall, the consensus on Reddit was clear: the couple’s demands were unreasonable.
