Hollywood star Shannen Doherty left detailed instructions for her remains following her passing.
The 90210 actress courageously battled cancer for several years after her initial diagnosis in 2015. Though she went into remission in 2017, she announced in 2020 that her cancer had returned.
Sadly, the 53-year-old passed away on Saturday, leading to an outpouring of grief. Despite being open about her journey and revealing that the cancer had spread from her breasts to her brain and bones, her death remains a shock.
Doherty’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, confirmed the actress’s death on Sunday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Sloane told People.
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
According to the Daily Mail, Doherty left specific instructions for her loved ones to follow upon her death, including her funeral plans and burial arrangements.
Back in January, the Charmed star revealed on her Let’s Be Clear podcast:
“I want [my remains] to be mixed with my dog, and I want it to be mixed with my dad. I do not want to be buried and not cremated,” she stated.
Doherty also proposed that the mixed ashes be scattered in Malibu, California, a place where she and her father shared many “precious moments” together. She was also open to the idea of incorporating the remains into fertilizer to “grow them into a tree.”
She also expressed a desire for her loved ones to use her mixed remains as fertilizer to ‘grow them into a tree’.
In the same podcast episode, Doherty outlined her funeral instructions, highlighting her wish for a more private event.
“There’s a lot of people that I think would show up that I don’t want there. I don’t want them there because their reasons for showing up aren’t necessarily the best reasons,” she explained.
“Like, they don’t really like me and, you know, they have their reasons and good for them, but they don’t actually really like me enough to show up to my funeral.”
Rest in peace, Shannen Doherty.
