A Texas man has gone viral after winning a bid for a guitar signed by Taylor Swift and then proceeding to smash it with a hammer.
The footage, which has circulated across various social media platforms, captures the moment he won the guitar with a bid of $4,000 and attempted to shatter it into pieces.
The viral incident took place during the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie, Texas, on September 28. This event served as a fundraiser to benefit agricultural and rural education for local youth.
Among the items auctioned off were tickets to see George Strait and Chris Stapleton, an African safari, a trip to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and, of course, the signed Taylor Swift guitar.
As the bidding for the guitar commenced, one attendee placed an initial offer of $3,200. According to the event organizer, the final winning bid for the signed instrument reached $4,000.
In the widely shared video, the winning bidder is seen walking up to the stage to collect the guitar. As he takes possession of the instrument, he is handed a hammer, which he quickly uses to smash the guitar.
Some viewers speculated that the man smashed the guitar in response to Swift’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris. However, according to TMZ, the guitar had been donated well before Swift made her announcement.
His actions ignited a debate, with opinions divided. Some applauded him for destroying the guitar, while others argued that he should have donated his money directly to charity.
“What a waste of money,” one commenter stated.
In contrast, another user defended the purchase, saying, “It wasn’t a waste at all! The $4,000 he spent went to the kids. The proceeds from the dinner supported the Future Farmers of America.”
